Muse Debut Survival On Radio 1

Muse went on todays Zane Lowe radio show to debut their new song Survival. The song is going to be the official song of the 2012 London Olympics. We haven’t heard much from Muse since they dropped the dubstep filled 2nd Law trailer. Honestly if this is a preview of what is to come from Muse, im not too impressed. I think Muse is one of those bands that you either really love or really hate. I find it really hard to hate them though because I do like some of their past work and their live shows are really good. But like i said if this is the direction they are going in, I don’t know if I’m going to be picking up The 2nd law. It is too much of the same for me. It’s not really new and exciting. I feel like i have heard it before. Although I might not like it what are your thoughts on it? Love it or hate it?
Blur To Debut New Songs During Live Webcast

| Everybody mark their calanders. On July 2nd at 6:15 pm BST, Blur will be performing on a London rooftop to debut new songs The Puritan and Under The Westway. These songs were written for their Hyde Park Gig for the closing ceremonies of the Olympics. The rooftop performance will be streaming live from their official twitter page. Blur bassist/cheese maker Alex James explains the two new songs in a video posted on the bands Twitter page. This is really exciting and hopefully this means that the Hyde Park gig isn’t the last we will see of Blur |

New Releases Catch Up Time
| I know i haven’t been the best lately when it comes to the new releases and reviewing them. There have just been so many releases and so little time. But I did carve out some time to listen to a few and chose 3 that have grabbed my attention.
The Hives- Lex Hives
This was a really fun album. These feisty Swedes never lost their form. I heard a few of these songs at Coachella and was happily surprised that they are just as good on the album. This is the kind of album that you just mindlessly bang your head to. Metric- Synthetica
Metric has done it again. They have made an accessible indie/alt album that anyone can enjoy. Metric was one of the first “alt” bands that I got in to and it was because it was different without being out there in Animal Collective territory or something. This album is just as awesome as Fantasies, which was one of the best of 2009. Mystery Jets- Radlands
I got to be honest, I was kind of late to the Mystery Jets party. But better late than never. The album just flows really well. It was love at first listen and i think it will be the same for you. |
Listen To : Swim Deep

I know I haven’t done an Listen To piece in a while, but to be honest not to many bands have been exciting of late. But Swim Deep have popped up on my radar. I first heard of the band on BBC Radio 1′s Review show when Spector frontman Fred Macpherson played one of their tunes. I’m really gad he did. They have a really interesting sound that stands out from the crowd. These guys have been making waves in the UK and are sure to get some traction here soon. Check out some of their tracks below
Calicanucks Year So Far
It’s hard to believe that we are halfway through the year. Although there is more exciting things to come this year, I wanted to take the time to review the highlights of this year so far.
Best Album So Far:
Howler- America Give Up
Since we haven’t heard much from The Strokes lately, this is a pretty good replacement. They are fun and fast songs that are hard to shake off.
Best Song So Far:
Arctic Monkeys- R U Mine
I have been known to play this song at full volume. It’s just great rock n roll. It also makes me more excited for the direction that AM are taking for their next album. This song will tie me over until they release a new album.
Best Music Video So Far:
Simple Song- The Shins
Best Concert So Far:
Kasabian 4/14/2012 at Coachella
To be honest with you, before I listened to Velicoraptor! I didn’t really like Kasabian. I thought they were cocky and had really no reason to be. But I took a chance last year and gave there material a proper listen and there was no turning back. There live shows are just as good as there records. They bring a lot of energy to their sets and their songs sound even better live. I don’t think that I have danced/jumped that much at a concert ever. Although they were playing a tent, they had the energy of a band playing an arena.
But with all the great things that have happened this year, there have been some lows.
Worst Album So Far:
The Big Pink-Future This
It was just dreadful. After hearing singles Stay Gold and Hit The Ground, I was expecting a lot more.
Worst Song So Far:
Silversun Pickups – Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)
I hate this song. It’s just annoying. I used to like Silversun Pickups but this song just made it hard to listen to any of their music.
Worst Music Video So Far:
Jack White- Sixteen Saltines
I genuinely have no idea what this video is about
Worst Concert So Far:
Squarepusher/Shabazz Palaces- The Creators Project
I will never get these hours back. It was just pure noise and had no redeeming qualities. I will never forget, no matter how hard I try.
