After a long touring schedule and playing the London 2012 opening ceremony, you think that the Arctic Monkeys would be taking a well deserved long break. But it seems as though they are already back in the studio and ready to record LP number 5. According to fan website Arctic Monkeys US they are back in the studio and they are going back to the desert to record.
and yes, Joshua Tree is the place. the wheels are in motion for AM5

Even Matt Helders mum chimed in, confirming that the boys are in fact in the desert.
@arcticmonkeysus I don’t know if it helps to clear things up but lads are in the desert!
AM has recorded in the desert before. It’s were they recorded their third album Humbug, which was produced by Josh Homme. The band said they were going to make more songs like R U Mine? on the next LP, but maybe it will go in a deeper and darker direction with Homme at the helm.
It’s hard to believe that we are halfway through the year. Although there is more exciting things to come this year, I wanted to take the time to review the highlights of this year so far.
Best Album So Far:
Howler- America Give Up
Since we haven’t heard much from The Strokes lately, this is a pretty good replacement. They are fun and fast songs that are hard to shake off.
Best Song So Far:
Arctic Monkeys- R U Mine
I have been known to play this song at full volume. It’s just great rock n roll. It also makes me more excited for the direction that AM are taking for their next album. This song will tie me over until they release a new album.
Best Music Video So Far:
Simple Song- The Shins
Best Concert So Far:
Kasabian 4/14/2012 at Coachella
To be honest with you, before I listened to Velicoraptor! I didn’t really like Kasabian. I thought they were cocky and had really no reason to be. But I took a chance last year and gave there material a proper listen and there was no turning back. There live shows are just as good as there records. They bring a lot of energy to their sets and their songs sound even better live. I don’t think that I have danced/jumped that much at a concert ever. Although they were playing a tent, they had the energy of a band playing an arena.
But with all the great things that have happened this year, there have been some lows.
Worst Album So Far:
The Big Pink-Future This
It was just dreadful. After hearing singles Stay Gold and Hit The Ground, I was expecting a lot more.
Worst Song So Far:
Silversun Pickups – Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)
I hate this song. It’s just annoying. I used to like Silversun Pickups but this song just made it hard to listen to any of their music.
Worst Music Video So Far:
Jack White- Sixteen Saltines
I genuinely have no idea what this video is about
Worst Concert So Far:
Squarepusher/Shabazz Palaces- The Creators Project
I will never get these hours back. It was just pure noise and had no redeeming qualities. I will never forget, no matter how hard I try.
