This new track is the first little taste of The Great Gatsby soundtrack, and it is shaping up to be a great album. Lana’s song is the first song to come off the soundtrack that is supposed to feature Jack White and Florence + The Machine. It’s a really nice song and fits well with the gatsby vibe. Check it out below
It’s hard to do covers, and especially hard to do good covers of classic songs. But Lana has done it. She has done an amazing cover of Leonard Cohen’s Chelsea Hotel #2. I know everybody hates on her, but its kinda hard when she has the vocals to back it up
Radlands saw a dramatic change in direction for Mystery Jets. Instead of simpler indie pop songs , they made Americana music better than any American band has done in a long time.
9. Lana Del Rey – Born To Die
Yes, she epically failed on SNL but that doesn’t take away from an album that is a solid debut effort. You either love her or you hate her, but you gotta admit she’s a great storyteller. There is a reason why Video Games went viral.
8. Tame Impala – Lonerism
It’s weird and psychedelic and it kinda makes you feel like you have taken a hit of acid, but thats what makes Tame Impala’s 2nd album great. It’s one of those records you put on and take a journey while listening to it.
7. The xx – Coexist
Coexist proved that the xx could be as sleek and sexy as they were on their debut, but still sound different.
6. The Cribs- In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull
In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull is just simple rock n roll. Its just something to rock out to. Its not complicated and thats what makes it so great.
5. The Vaccines- Come Of Age
The Vaccines have come of age. The album shows growth and maturity for a band that his be under the microscope since they started.
4. Howler- America Give Up
Howler really should have gotten more attention. America Give Up was a great debut. It had raw energy that couldn’t be matched.
3. Jessie Ware- Devotion
Jessie Ware could sing the phone book and probably still make it sound beautiful. But Ware’s debut isn’t just good for her vocals. The songs are simple and timeless.
2. The Maccabees – Given To The Wild
Beautiful. Thats the only way to describe Given To The Wild. The songs wove together so perfectly. It was atmospheric and ethereal and was a breath of fresh air.
1. Spector – Enjoy It While It Lasts
I honestly just couldn’t put this record down. It’s indie pop at its finest. It’s cheeky without being off putting and has big hooks that will be in your head for days.
Honorable Mentions : Graham Coxon, Metric, Bats For Lashes, Django Django
With the Paradise Edition of her debut album coming out next week , Lana Del Rey premiered a new video last night. Bel Air isn’t the most creative video she’s done. It’s lots of hard stares, smoke and hair flipping. But that dramatic Lana story telling is still there with the new song. Bel Air plus recent single Ride will appear on Born To Die Paradise Edition.
Well nobody can accuse Lana of being understated. She released a 10 minute epic short film for her latest single Ride. The short film sees her riding across the desert with bikers and getting in trouble per usual. The new single will appear on the Paradise Edition of Born To Die which will be released on November 13th.
After announcing the Born To Die Paradise Edition, Lana Del Rey released the first single off the album. Ride is as dramatic and epic as you would want a Lana song to be. Check it out below
