10 Best Albums of 2012

10. Mystery Jets- Radlands

Radlands saw a dramatic change in direction for Mystery Jets. Instead of simpler indie pop songs , they made Americana music better than any American band has done in a long time.

9. Lana Del Rey – Born To Die

Yes, she epically failed on SNL but that doesn’t take away from an album that is a solid debut effort. You either love her or you hate her, but you gotta admit she’s a great storyteller. There is a reason why Video Games went viral.

8. Tame Impala – Lonerism

It’s weird and psychedelic and it kinda makes you feel like you have taken a hit of acid, but thats what makes Tame Impala’s 2nd album great. It’s one of those records you put on and take a journey while listening to it.

7. The xx – Coexist

Coexist proved that the xx could be as sleek and sexy as they were on their debut, but still sound different.

6. The Cribs- In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull

In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull is just simple rock n roll. Its just something to rock out to. Its not complicated and thats what makes it so great.

5. The Vaccines- Come Of Age

The Vaccines have come of age. The album shows growth and maturity for a band that his be under the microscope since they started.

4. Howler- America Give Up

Howler really should have gotten more attention. America Give Up was a great debut. It had raw energy that couldn’t be matched.

3. Jessie Ware- Devotion

Jessie Ware could sing the phone book and probably still make it sound beautiful.  But Ware’s debut isn’t just good for her vocals. The songs are simple and timeless.

2. The Maccabees – Given To The Wild

Beautiful. Thats the only way to describe Given To The Wild. The songs wove together so perfectly. It was atmospheric and ethereal and was a breath of fresh air.

1. Spector – Enjoy It While It Lasts

I honestly just couldn’t put this record down. It’s indie pop at its finest. It’s cheeky without being off putting and has big hooks that will be in your head for days.

The Vaccines Do Acoustic Session

20120913 vaccines x600 1347575446 The Vaccines Do Acoustic Session

The Vaccines dropped by Le Mouv today to do an exclusive acoustic session. They performed No Hope, Teenage Icon and a cover of ABBA’s The Winner Takes It All. No Hope and Teenage Icon sound very different but very nice when given the acoustic treatment. The Winner Takes It All sounds even better than it did on there Please Please Do Not Disturb EP. The band will resume touring in support of their latest effort Come Of Age October 6th.

The Vaccines/ Deap Vally – The Troubadour

The Vaccines wrapped up their short North American Tour at The Troubadour Thursday night. The band has yet to do a proper headline tour of the states. The last tour was cancelled due to Justin Young’s vocal chord issues , but were never rescheduled. This was a highly anticipated gig, the tickets sold out almost immediately. I was lucky enough to snag a ticket and head down to LA for what was a really fantastic gig. Their opening act was Deap Vally, who has caught my attention recently. They really put on a solid performance for a fairly new band. The set was short, about 30 minutes, but it got the crowd really pumped.  The Vaccines came out and the crowd went insane. You can tell that everybody had been looking forward to the gig for a long time. They came out strong with  No Hope and then rattled off Wreckin Bar and Tiger Blood right after. Although their newest effort Come Of Age, hasn’t been released yet here they played 6 songs off the new album. Ghost Town and Bad Mood had the best and loudest crowd reaction while Change Of Heart Part 2 and I Always Knew took time to grow on the crowd. But the best part of the night was All In White. It was powerful and took over the crowd. Everybody was singing along and at some points during the song , louder than Justin. The night ended  with the always fun Norgaard. Although the set was shorter than most would have liked, it was an amazing set by a band that won’t be playing small places in America for much longer.

The Vaccines On Fallon

The Vaccines were on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night and performed their new single Teenage Icon. The band is currently on a brief 3 date American tour that will be wrapping up tomorrow in Los Angeles. There is no word on an extended US tour, but the band will be embarking on their biggest UK headlining tour to date in November.
